Late Night Cageside Radio Show: Ricardo Lamas & Leonard Garcia Full Recap

April 2, 2013 8:07 pm by Chase Raymond

If you missed Late Night Cageside last night on radio, then you missed a great episode. The show started out with co-host’s Tony Kamps and Chase Raymond discussing TRT in MMA. They discussed their different views on a variety of subjects that surround TRT use and fighter exemptions. Caller’s joined in on the discussions and a lot of valid points were made supporting both positives and negatives of TRT use in MMA.

The first guest of the night was UFC featherweight Ricardo Lamas. We discussed a variety of topics during the 20-30 minute interview ranging from his upcoming fight with “The Korean Zombie” to TRT in MMA. He talked about earning his college degree while winning over 100 wrestling matches during his college-wrestling career.

Lamas talked about how he felt he had clearly earned a title shot after his last victory over #1 contender Eric Koch. We talked about how he felt about not getting his title shot because of Anthony Pettis dropping down to featherweight to face Aldo. It was a very good interview and Ricardo Lamas did not hold back while discussing the before mentioned topics and much more.

The second guest of the evening was one of the most exciting featherweight’s in the UFC Leonard Garcia. We talked to Garcia about being on a four fight losing streak and if he felt he was in a must win situation. Garcia made it clear that he knows he’s not going to be able to stay in the UFC with just being exciting, and said if he isn’t winning he don’t want to be in the UFC.

He talked about how he’s made positive changes in his training and life to assure he’s 100 percent in his upcoming fight with Cody McKenzie. Garcia talked about training with UFC light-heavyweight champion Jon Jones and we asked him if he gets the best of Jones when they roll at practice. Garcia fielded questions from fans as they called in and had plenty to ask. One caller asked Garcia his opinion on Fallon Fox in what was one of his most candid moments and did not hold back his opinion.

We dealt with some technical issues with it being our first show, which you might have noticed at the beginning and once or twice during the night. The third guest UFC heavyweight Soa Palelei was unable to call in because he was out of country and a technical issue kept him off the show. He’s on a 8 fight win streak all by KO or TKO and all but one of his finishes came in the first round during his latest winning streak. We will be rescheduling the interview and keep you posted.

The end of the show was spent discussing Fallon Fox and the injury to Alexander Gustafsson. Listeners voiced their opinion and had great conversation on these topics for the remainder of the show. Over all it was a great first show, we took plenty of calls and had great listener participation. If you missed the show you can check out the replay here on
