File this one under “unexpected.”

UFC Tonight’s Ariel Helwani reported that Martin Kampmann is being considered to replace Duane “Bang” Ludwig as the head coach of Team Alpha Male, located in Sacramento. Kampmann was at Team Alpha Male on Sunday, Monday and Tuesday on a tryout basis.

The 32-year old Kampmann (20-7) last fought at UFC Fight Night 27 last August against Carlos Condit, a rematch that he lost in the fourth round by TKO. He has 17 fights in the UFC.

Team Alpha Male consists of Joseph Benavidez, Chad Mendes, Danny Castillo, T.J. Dillashaw, Urijah Faber and others.

Kampmann, a long time member of Xtreme Couture, is the first candidate to replace Ludwig, who is leaving the team to open his own gym in Colorado.

Do you see Kampmann as a good fit for Team Alpha Male?
