Junior dos Santos on Alistair Overeem: “I don’t care about (fighting) this guy.”

The long awaited matchup between former UFC heavyweight champion Junior “Cigano” dos Santos and former Strikeforce heavyweight champ Alistair Overeem is, well, still going to be awaited. It seems that Overeem has yet again walked away from another opportunity to fight the former champ.

Originally set to face off at UFC 146, the bout was sidelined after Overeem failed his post fight drug screening. Then post posed at UFC 160 after Overeem sustained an injury.

This time however, according to UFC President Dana White’s account as he took some time with “UFC Tonight” on FOX Sports 1, Overeem has cleared his schedule of anything possible future match ups with “Cigano” as he has taken off to Jamaica for a holiday!

This is all untrue according to Overeem who says that he is simply taking some much needed time to tend to old wounds. However, with this being the third time that the Dutch kick boxer has turned down a fight with dos Santos it leaves fans wondering if he’s not simply dodging the Brazilian.

“Cigano” doesn’t seem to mind though. And although this match up would surely line dos Santos’ pockets handsomely dos Santos was very clear how he felt about Overeem in an interview with MMAjunkie Radio.

“I don’t care about this guy. I don’t care what’s going to happen with him right now. I’m here to fight with anyone in the heavyweight division. It’s like that.”

Dos Santos is coming off of his second defeat by the hands of UFC heavyweight king Cain Velasquez, the only man to ever beat “Cigano”. And with coming off of that loss dos Santos is open for any worthy opponent and has no intentions of being picky.

“I’m sure the UFC is going to bring someone good to be making a fight against me,” dos Santos said. “We have great fighters in the heavyweight division, and I like it a lot right now.”

With Travis Browne set to face off against Fabricio Werdum this upcoming April at UFC on Fox 11 those two are out of the runnings to fight the former champ as they have their sights set on the current champ.

But that leaves in question who is left for dos Santos?

Two fighters that are the most likely to get the chance to fight the former champ are the up and coming Stipe Moicic and former UFC champ Josh Barnett. However, it seems that of the two dos Santos is already eyeing one.

“I prefer Miocic,” dos Santos said. “I think Miocic is living a very good moment in his career, so it could be a good fight for the people.”

And with Miocic being one to bang with an opponent it surely would “be a good fight for the people”.

Dana didn’t seem to disagree when asked at a media luncheon held last Thursday saying, “Yeah, I like that matchup too.” He went on to assure us that “It isn’t going to be Alistair, I’ll tell you that.”

This leaves some interesting possibilities for dos Santos who is always an entertaining fighter. I for one have been awaiting his return and can’t wait to see him face off against anyone the UFC pits him up against.

So, what you guys think out there Penn Nation? Is Miocic a worthy opponent for dos Santos? Who else comes to mind?
