Josh Barnett On Travis Browne Match Up: This Won’t Be A Long Fight

December 27, 2013 8:36 am by Derek Langhorn

This weekend at UFC 168, in a fight that has been overshadowed by two title rematches, Travis Browne will face Josh Barnett and the winner will get a chance at a number-one contender fight against Fabricio Werdum.

Barnett recently went on Sherdog’s “Beatdown” radio show to discuss the upcoming match, and to detail his thoughts on Browne.

Although he is almost always an underdog going into his fights, Browne has gone 6-1 with one draw inside the octagon, and has amassed a career record of 15-1-1.

“I think [Browne’s] record speaks for itself. He’s had plenty of success in the ring,” Barnett said. “He’s earned his way to his prominence in the UFC. The only real way to find out what I [think] of his skills in the ring is to go out there and fight him.”

No fight has shown Browne’s ability to find a way to win more than his bout with Alistair Overeem, in which he was battered by vicious body shots by the K-1 Grand Prix champion. Browne found the will to come from behind and find the knockout against Overeem. Barnett had respect for Browne’s ability to deal with adversity, but does not believe beating Overeem is as difficult of a task as others may believe.

“I see Alistair as a beatable person. I’ve seen him get knocked out in person before. I’ve also seen him clean people’s clocks,” Barnett said. “But I was surprised [Browne] was able to come back from getting dropped from a body shot like that. It goes to show intestinal fortitude will get you a long way.”

As for the upcoming match up, Barnett said “[it’s] striker versus grappler for the most part… I don’t think it’s going to be a long fight.”
