Jon Jones Talks About UFC 151 in His First Interview Since the Card was Cancelled

September 4, 2012 7:09 am by Bryan Levick

In an interview MMAFighting.Com’s Ariel Helwani, UFC Light Heavyweight Champion Jon Jones spoke up for the first time other than a few tweets from his Twitter account about the cancellation of UFC 151, Chael Sonnen, Dan Henderson and more.

Jones begins the interview by talking about the reason he turned down the fight in the first place. He told Helwani he did not regret the decision and that he was consulted by all of his coaches before finally deciding the fight was too risky to take. Jones stated that they were all in agreement that he could have won the fight, but because Sonen & Henderson have completely opposite styles that it would be difficult to adjust to the change on such short notice.

In what was one of the smartest things he has said since this whole debacle has begun, Jones said that it would’ve been extremely arrogant for him to take the fight.

The interview is 41 minutes in length and Jones talks about a variety of topics including the backlash he has had to face and how his relationship with the UFC will be as they all look to move past this and look towards the future.
