| It was announced yesterday that the UFC has scheduled the return of its Light Heavyweight Champion, Jonny “Bone” Jones, for September 21st at UFC 165. Jones will defend his title for the sixth time and will look to become the first man in UFC LHW history to successfully defend his strap 6 consecutive times. That will be no easy task, though, considering he’ll be taking on the young, hungry Alexander Gustafsson on that night in Toronto.
The betting odds on the fight, just like almost every other time he fights, will heavily favor Bones. He”ll open up as the -800 favorite, according to Best Fight Odds.
Gustafsson, on the other hand, is a 5-to-1 underdog (+500) with the release of the first odds. The numbers don’t seems to bother “The Mauler” though as he believes Jones is afraid of this fight with him.
Jones has had the betting odd advantage in every title fight he has entered and, although he probably doesn’t pay much attention to the numbers, will once again be the heavy favorite in this upcoming title bout.
With Jones one win away from claiming another UFC record (6 successful LHW title defenses) “The Mauler” will look to defy those odds and shatter Jones’ dreams of going down in the record books as the best light heavyweight in UFC history. Gustafsson, although he is a huge underdog, feels that he has the tools to beat Jones and is a nasty match-up for the current champ.
So what do you guys think? Is Bones rightfully the heavy favorite heading into this fight or is Alex Gustafsson being overlooked by the odds makers? Let’s hear some opinions on this upcoming title fight, Penn Nation!
