After Georges St. Pierre relinquished his title to take some time away from the sport, many wondered who would fight for the belt that is now up for grabs. It didn’t take long to get the answer, as UFC President Dana White announced that Johny Hendricks and Robbie Lawler will fight each other for the vacant welterweight title at UFC 171.

Betting lines have already come out, and Hendricks has come out as the early favorite against the surging Lawler.

Hendricks is the favorite at -260, and Lawler’s odds are at +200. renaissance

Lawler has had a career renaissance of late, as after he returned to the UFC he scored two straight knockouts against Bobby Voelker and Josh Koscheck. Lawler’s most recent fight was a victory over top-ranked prospect Rory MacDonald at UFC 167, where he won the boutby split decision.

Hendricks has been a top contender for a long time now, and many (most) fans and media outlets believed he won his most recent fight, a championship match against St. Pierre. The judges though, saw it differently, and gave St. Pierre the victory.

UFC 171 takes place March 15, 2014 in Dallas.
