Ronda Rousey shocked the world earlier this month when she announced she would be defending her UFC Women’s Bantamweight Championship against Holly Holm next, rather than Miesha Tate.

It seemed as if everybody from Holm to Tate thought “Cupcake” was next in line after she defeated Jessica Eye at “UFC on FOX 16”— she was even told by UFC President Dana White that she was next in line. However, the offices changed their minds when they called up Holm and changed her fight from Sarah Kaufman to a title match with Ronda Rousey.

While there are some supporters of the newly announced championship match between “Rowdy” and Holm, UFC commentator Joe Rogan believes there is ANOTHER UFC bantamweight that deserves the shot before Holm.

“I don’t agree with that fight,” Rogan said on a recent Fight Companion episode of The Joe Rogan Experience. “That Holly Holm fight. I don’t think that’s smart. I would have gone with Amanda Nunes before Holly Holm. Amanda Nunes looked like a badass when she knocked out Sara McMann. That’s a more dangerous fighter. A more marketable fighter.”

Rogan went on to mention that while there is a chance Holm can shock the world and pull off an upset, he believes one of the reasons she got the shot was due to the lack of talent within the bantamweight division.

“The Holly Holm fight is not as intriguing to me as Amanda Nunes would be. [Holm’s] big issue is the grappling. Who knows, though? You never know. Maybe Holly, because her standup is so much more refined, she’s been doing it for so much longer, maybe she can keep Ronda away from her. I’m serious. I just think, honestly, the real problem is that there’s a lack of talent.”

Do you think Rogan is right in saying that the UFC’s bantamweight division lacks talent? Is Holly Holm a respectable opponent for Ronda Rousey? Share your thoughts in the comment section below!
