Jamie Varner vs. Gleison Tibau set for UFC 164 in Milwaukee

By Chris Taylor - June 19, 2013

This afternoon, UFC officials announced that a lightweight bout between Jamie Varner (21-7-1 MMA, 3-2 UFC) and Gleison Tibau (27-9 MMA, 11-7 UFC) has been added to the already stacked UFC 164 card.

The former WEC lightweight champion, Varner, most recently saw action at UFC 155 in December, where he scored a split-decision victory over Melvin Guillard. Prior to that, Varner was submitted by Joe Lauzon in a “fight of the night” performance at UFC on FOX 4.

Meanwhile, Tibau was last seen inside the octagon at May’s UFC on FX 8 event in Brazil, where he submitted  opponent John Cholish in the second round. That submission win put Tibau back in the win column, as he was previously defeated by Evan Dunham at UFC 156 in February by decision.

UFC 164 takes place August 31 at the Bradley Center in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. The event is headlined by a lightweight title fight between champion Benson Henderson and challenger T.J. Grant. The card also features the return of former UFC champion Josh Barnett, as he takes on another  former UFC heavyweight champ in Frank Mir.
