UFC welterweight contender Jake Ellenberger (29-7 MMA, 8-3 UFC) is looking to bounce back into title contention by avenging a previous loss he suffered at the hands of Martin Kampmann (20-7 MMA, 11-6 UFC).
Both fighters, Ellenberger and Kampmann, are coming off disappointing performances in their last octagon appearances. “The Juggernaut” was out-pointed by Canadian Rory MacDonald at UFC on FOX 8 in Seattle, in what was one of the more disappointing fights of the year, at least entertainment wise.
Meanwhile, “The Hitman” most recently suffered a TKO loss to former UFC interim welterweight champ Carlos Condit in the headliner of the “UFC Fight Night 27” in Indianapolis.
With both fighters coming off losses, Ellenberger believes that a rematch with “The Hitman” is a strong possibility, as he told ‘MMA Fighting’ in a recent interview:
“Nothing’s set yet, we’re still negotiating options, but sounds like that I definitely will be fighting before the end of the year. Hopefully in Vegas on the Dec. 28 card. I’m just looking for someone in the top 10. (Kampmann) is a good possibility right now. That’s something I’d definitely look forward to. UFC hasn’t offered it to me yet so I just have to wait. I’m always highly motivated to fight. I’m excited be back in there against a top 10 opponent.”
In their first meeting at “The Ultimate Fighter 15 Finale,” Ellenberger was in cruise control early on in the fight, hammering “The Hitman” with some solid punches. However, the Dane was eventually able to slip one of those punches and land a strike that put “The Juggernaut” on queer street. Kampmann followed that up with some viscous knees that forced the referee to step in and stop the bout.
