Jake “The Juggernaut” Ellenberger has been forced to pull out of his fight against Tarec Saffiedine, which was scheduled for UFC Fight Night 34 on Jan. 4, 2014 in Singapore.
Now, as he reported to FOXSports.com, Ellenberger has injured his hamstring, and will reportedly be out for six to eight weeks.
“It’s been a rough week,” Ellenberger said. “It was a hamstring injury, just one of those things.”
“I’ve never pulled out of a fight before, usually I’m the one taking fights on short notice, but this was one of those times where I just had to do it,” he said.
Ellenberger recently lost a lackluster unanimous decision against Rory MacDonald at UFC on FOX 8 in Seattle, Wash., and was looking to get back on the winning track. He now looks to nurse his injury, and hopes to return to competition in February.
Hyun Gyu Lim has been chosen to take Ellenberger’s spot against Saffiedine. The massive welterweight Lim looks to improve his UFC win streak to three as he takes on former Strikeforce welterweight champion Saffiedine, who will make his UFC debut, and looks to improve his mixed martial arts win streak to five.
