UFC Fight Night 36 is a big night for the UFC middleweight division. It is a tournament of sorts, where Gegard Mousasi faces Lyoto Machida, and Jacare Souza will look to defeat rising contender Francis Carmont.
“Lyoto was the light heavyweight champion and is coming off a big win, Mousasi was the DREAM champion, and I’m fighting a guy that has won six straight in the UFC,” Souza said. “It will be like a grand prix to determine the next title challenger in the middleweight division.”
One of the four men competing on the card could be the next contender for the middleweight crown, at least after Vitor Belfort faces the winner of the Anderson Silva vs. Chris Weidman rematch. Souza believes it will be him, and thinks he has the tools to defeat whoever holds the belt by the time he gets his chance.
“I have the perfect style to beat anyone, including Chris Weidman. Many people don’t believe in my potential yet, but that’s how I like it,” he said. I still have much to prove, I’ve fought only twice in the UFC, but I can guarantee you that I’m ready for any challenge to prove I have what it takes to get the title.”
UFC Fight Night 36 takes place Feb. 15, 2014 in Jaragua do Sul, Santa Catarina, Brazil.
