Asian MMA standout Tatsuya Kawajiri was set to make his UFC debut against Nova Uniao disciple Hacran Dias in Singapore on January 4. However, just like so many other exciting match-ups in the past, this too has been dismissed by an unfortunate injury; this one sustained by Dias during training.
Dias has only made two ventures into the octagon so far, garnering mixed results. The Brazilian notched a unanimous decision win over Iuri Alcantara at UFC 147, while losing a unanimous decision to Nik Lentz at UFC on FX 8. Having backed out of a bout against Rodrigo Damm at UFC Fight Night 29, this marks the second consecutive time that injury has spoiled the return of Dias. Kawajiri, having only fought outside of Asia once, still hopes to make his UFC debut on January 4. Although nothing can be verified, the UFC is currently looking for a replacement.
UFC Fight Night 34 will take place in Singapore on January 4 at the Marina Bay Sands Expo and Convention Centre. The card will be headlined by the UFC debut of former and final Strikeforce welterweight champion Tarec “The Sponge” Saffiedine against Korean standout Hyun Gyu Lim (Lim being the replacement for an injured Jake Ellenberger).
