| Ian “Uncle Creepy” McCall, despite all of the talents and skills he possesses, is still winless in the UFC. Since the organization has introduced the flyweight division McCall has gone 0-2-1, losing a fight to Demetrious Johnson (and drawing with him) and Joeseph Benavidez. Before those three fights McCall was considered by many to be the #1 flyweight fighter in the world.
He’ll get another chance to finally notch that elusive first UFC win at the end of the summer as he’s officially set to take on Iliarde Santos on August 3rd at UFC 163.
McCall, although he’s still ranked the #3 contender in the flyweight MMA world rankings, is in desperate need of a win as his back is against the wall in his new home promotion of the UFC. The talent is never lacking in the world’s top MMA promotion but McCall has only fought the top of the food change as far as his competition in the UFC. With losses to Johnson and Benavidez, who are Champion and top contender, respectively, will look to keep his legitimacy in the division alive with a solid performance in August.
Iliarde Santos, a Brazilian scrapper who lost his UFC debut last month when he was KO’d by Yuri Alcantara, will also be looking for his first promotional win. McCall will likely enter the fight as a favorite but that can only get him so close to a win. In MMA, anything can happen, especially when you add in the fact that in UFC events in Brazil the Brazilian fighters have been winning over 80% of the time when matched up with non-Brazilian opponents. That’s a scary statistic and McCall, who has not had Lady Luck on his side recently, will need to defy those odds and live up to his title as the favorite in this fight. His job may rely on it.
