UFC Welterweight Champion Robbie Lawler is set to defend his championship against Rory MacDonald in the co main-event of UFC 189, but everybody seems to be talking about the main-event. Conor McGregor will finally get to challenge Jose Aldo in one of the most anticipated bouts of the year, and Lawler is fine with being in the bout’s shadow.

“The UFC does a great job of promoting these fights,” Lawler told Inside MMA. “But Jose and Conor have done a great job of beating people up over the years and Conor’s done a great job of hyping up himself and this event so they’re doing a great job of selling this and I get to slide in there and reap all the benefits of having a lot of eyes on me and showcasing my skills. I just concentrate on myself and hopefully everyone enjoys what I bring to the table… I just stay humble and just keep working and keep life as easy as possible. Just work hard and grind away.”

Not a bad deal for Robbie Lawler. While Lawler does deserve more attention than what he is getting, everybody who buys the PPV to see Aldo/McGregor will see an all out war between Lawler and MacDonald and their stock can only go up because of that. Who do you see walking out with the welterweight gold?
