Featherweight contender Mark Hominick strongly feels that he owes the Canadian fans, primarily his hometown fans in Toronto, a big win.
The Toronto Sun reported on an interview the QMI Agency did with ‘The Machine,’ that tells the story of a fighter in need of a big win. Not only for himself, but also for the fans. “I was saying after the last fight that I want to give the Toronto fans a win. That would be a huge honor,” stated Hominick.
Coming off of the devastating and surprising 7 second KO loss to the Korean Zombie, and a 5 round war for the ages with current champ Jose Aldo, Hominick with a record of 20-10-0, looks to bounce back in impressive fashion. “In the warm-up, I just started getting fired up, I was laying good punches in the warm-up on the pads and then I started thinking I was going to come out with a big left hook. It was just so out of character for me,” Hominick said in reference to his loss to Chan-Sung Jung.
Mark Hominick is currently prepping to fight Eddie Yagin in Atlanta on April 21st, with the headliner being Jon Jones defending his title against Rashad Evans. Yagin, 15-5-1, is also coming off a loss to Junior Assuncao at UFC 135 in Denver. Hominick has a fan pleasing vision for the outcome of this battle, stating, “It could be fight of the night. He comes to throw down. So I’m excited about that. I’m excited about fighters like that. Guys who like to bite down on the mouth guard and get in the mix.”
As for how he matches up stylistically against the 12 year veteran in Yagin, Mark feels he has him figured out, “I think the biggest thing is he’s got a really good overhand right … and he’s got a really tight guillotine.” The Canadian also feels he is flying under the radar coming into this battle, saying, “…I can go out there and remind people who I am and perform. Definitely as a fighter, you want to be the guy people are talking about and be on the main card. But with this one, it has been nice to just focus on the fight so I can get back on track.”
Not only does the Canadian star need a win for his fans at home, but for his esteemed and iconic late trainer and friend, Shawn Tompkins. With the passing of the great Tompkins, the camp has had some set backs, but look to get back to business as usual. “Everyone’s motivated,” stated Hominick, “Everybody’s hungry to fight, hungry to win. We need that first big win to get us moving in the right direction. On April 21, that’s my motivation. The team needs it and we get motivated by each other.”
With a big win over Eddie Yagin, Mark would be a perfect candidate to fight in Toronto on the card the UFC has scheduled for September 22nd. With a lot on the line on the 21st of April, Mark “The Machine” Hominick is confident he is ready for whatever Yagin has to bring. “I could see him coming out more aggressive because he wants to show the kind of fighter he is. We’ll see on the night, but I’m ready for the best he brings.”Tags: featured, MMA NEWS, Strikeforce, strikeforce news, ufc news, UFC on FOX, UFC on FOX 2, ufc on fox 3, UFC on Fuel, UFC on FX
