Johny Hendricks has always been pretty outspoken on former Welterweight champion Georges St. Pierre. Everything from his insistence on drug testing, to his multiple decision outcomes have come under scrutiny from “Bigg Rigg,” but in a recent conference call for UFC 171, Hendricks stacked his impressions of GSP and his UFC 171 opponent Robbie Lawler against each other.
“Georges, you knew that he was going to throw a jab, a high kick, a low kick, and try to take you down. That’s his gameplan,” Hendricks said. “Robbie, if you make a mistake, we’ve seen it time and time again, he can knock you out. So you really have to make sure that you stay focused, cross all your t’s and dot all your i‘s, and make sure that you stay solid. That’s a lot more dangerous fight.”
“Ruthless” Robbie Lawler has a professional record of 22-9-1NC. Out of 22 wins, 18 have been from knockout. Lawlers knockout power is certainly not an underutilized factor by any means, and is one of his great drawing points.
In comparison, GSP has an impressive professional record of 25-2, however only 8 of his 25 wins came by knockout. This, along with his string of decision fights, and his controversial victory of Hendricks, definitely puts “Rush”below Robbie Lawler in the “Dangerous Threats” category.
Robbie Lawler and Johny Hendricks are set to square off on March 15TH at the American Airlines Center in Dallas, Texas and this is one showdown of stand up power and brute strength that will certainly prove who had the heaviest hands in the welterweight division.
