UFC Middleweight fighter Dan Miller is currently involved in one of the biggest fights of his life, fighting to keep his son Danny Miller Jr. alive. Danny Miller Jr. was born with autosomal recessive polycystic kidney disease (PKD). Polycystic kidney disease (PKD) is a genetic disorder which causes multiple cysts to develop on the kidneys in groups. As the cysts develop they begin to inhibit kidney function causing diminished production or potentially complete renal failure. PKD can develop in two forms, autosomal dominant and autosomal recessive. This means his kidneys are producing cysts and preventing normal kidney function. It has gotten bad enough to where he has already had both kidney’s removed, and is waiting for a new kidney, which will be coming from his aunt.
As of right now Danny Jr. is doing well enough to be at home, but has to go through daily dialysis, use a feeding tube and take many medications. This has also affected Danny Jr. physically, he isn’t growing as a little one should and is also going through physical therapy to help him keep up his strength. He truly is a fighter just like his daddy. Even when he gets his new kidney, Danny Jr. will forever have to take anti-rejection medications to keep his body from rejecting the kidney. All of this is not cheap, especially when Dan’s health insurance is only covering half the procedure to remove and give him a donor kidney. Not to mention all of his treatment and medications cost about $10,000 a month which the insurance is only partially covering as well.
The Miller’s has set up the Danny Miller Jr. Foundation in hopes of raising money to help cover the costs of this intensive treatment. The next upcoming fundraiser for this extraordinary boy is the AMA Fight Club MMA Seminar, which is December 3, 2011 at 831 Route 10 East, Whippany, NJ. You can go online to the their website HERE to buy tickets to the event or to donate via paypal. We are asking all of our MMA fans to help out one of the best Middleweight fighters in the sport in his time of need.
