Gustafsson Wants Fight With Anthony Johnson In January

By BJPENN.COM News - September 15, 2014

Fight fans may get the chance to see the highly anticipated light heavyweight bout between Alexander Gustafsson and Anthony Rumble Johnson sooner rather than later.

After initially stating that he had no desire to fight Anthony Johnson, and that he would rather wait for a title shot against the winner of Jon Jones vs. Daniel Cormier, Alexander Gustafsson changed his mind, and decided he would fight Anthony Johnson.

He spoke to KammakazeTV to discuss his thoughts on the fight.

“Well, he challenged me, he wants to fight me, and I’m down with that,” he said. “I want to fight him too. We’re just waiting for conformation, a date and where”

Despite his desire to fight ASAP, Gustafsson knows he needs to complete more rehabilitation on his injured knee before stepping in the cage. As a result, he thinks a fight between himself and Johnson is possible for January.

Rumble has taken the popular approach of hyping the fight with trash talk via Twitter, something Gustafsson doesn’t give much thought to.

“He’s doing a good job. That’s just part of the business.”

Given that the winner of the Johnson vs. Gustafsson bout will likely get the winner of Jones vs. Cormier, ‘The Mauler’ has his eye on that fight as well.

“I’m very excited to see that fight. DC is a great opponent for Jones. But I still believe that Jones has his reach, his momentum to win the fight.”
