Gustafsson Sitting Out For Title Shot

By BJPENN.COM News - August 14, 2014

Alexander Gustafsson fans are going to have to wait a very long time to see the Swedish based fighter return to the cage.

And that’s his own doing. He doesn’t want to fight anyone, but Jon Jones.

The original plan was to rematch Jon Jones in next month’s UFC 178 main event. That got botched when the Swede pulled out of the bout with an injury.

Daniel Cormier slid in, and now, with a new Jones injury, D.C. and Jon will not fight until next year, on January 3.

Gustafsson’s manager explained the predicament, and his clients plans to UFC Tonight on FOX Sports 1.

“He will do whatever he can to not get passed by. He will not accept any other fight than to be the next in line for the title against Jones”, said Gustafsson’s rep.

Alexander Gustafsson last saw action against Jimi Manuwa in March. If this holds up he will be idle for more than a year waiting for his promised shot at UFC gold.
