Gunnar Nelson injured, Rick Story in against Mike Pyle

Welterweight Gunnar Nelson announced via his personal twitter account that an undisclosed injury, suffered during his preparations to fight Mike Pyle, will require surgery, which has forced him to withdraw from the bout at UFC 160. Rick Story will replace the icelandic rising star on what is scheduled to be the FX main event.

Therefore, “Gunni” Nelson will have to wait a few more weeks in order to try to keep building on his impressive winning streak. The 24-year-old has collected 11 victories in a row (two inside the UFC’s Octagon), while still possessing an unbeaten record, with also one draw. His last showing happened on UFC on Fuel TV 7 on February, when he beat Jorge Santiago via unanimous decision.

Rick “The Horror” Story will make his 13th appearance inside the Octagon on what has been an up-and-down UFC career. After being submitted by Demian Maia on October of last year at UFC 153, Story defeated Quinn Mulhern via TKO at UFC 158 on March 16th.

The 37-year-old Mike Pyle can consider himself a late bloomer, as his career took a somewhat unexpected upswing recently. He has won six of his last seven bouts, including a three-fight winning streak over Ricardo Funch, Josh Neer and James Head, that last one being a 1st round TKO victory on December of 2012 at the TUF 16 Finale.

UFC 160 will go down on May 25th at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada. The event will be headlined by two much-anticipated heavyweight bouts. Former champion Junior dos Santos will collide with Mark “The Super Samoan” Hunt, while, on the main event of the evening, Cain Velasquez will put his belt on the line against Antonio “Big Foot” Silva.
