GSP: If Askren signs, I’ll fight him. No problem.

Bellator welterweight champion, Ben Askren (12-0 MMA), is currently in contract limbo, sitting on the shelf with Bellator, while waiting for a contract offer from the UFC.

Bellator President, Bjorn Rebney, stated that he would happily let Ben Askren go, if the UFC would give him an immediate title shot.

UFC president, Dana White, did not seem to take Bellator’s offer serious, leading one to believe that if Askren did sign, he would probably have to win a couple of fights before receiving a shot at UFC gold.

Longtime UFC welterweight champion, Georges St. Pierre (24-2 MMA, 18-2 UFC), recently spoke with mmajunkie.com and shared his thoughts on fighting Ben Askren:

“Of course (I’d like to fight him),” stated Georges. “He’s a good fighter, undefeated, and yes, if he comes, I’ll fight him. No problem.”

St. Pierre continued:

“Bring him in; I’ll fight everyone. I am the champion, and I have no choice, so it’s no problem. I’m not afraid.”

Georges St. Pierre is set to defend his UFC welterweight title against number 1 contender Johny Hendricks at next month’s UFC 167 event in Las Vegas.

Should “Rush” prove victorious against Hendricks, would you like to see him fight Ben Askren next, or do you feel that “Funky” still has some work to do? Let’s hear it Penn Nation!
