With a first-round TKO victory over Ryan Bader at UFC Fight Night 28 Wednesday night, Glover Teixeira earned himself the next shot at the UFC light heavyweight title. While his opponent depends on the outcome of the upcoming Jones vs. Gustafsson match-up, Teixeira is hoping to face Jon Jones- and confidently so.

Following UFC Fight Night 28, the UFC announced through Director of International Development Marshall Zelaznik that Glover Teixeira’s 1st-round TKO over Ryan Bader earned him the number one contender spot at light heavyweight. The 205-lb. Brazilian fighter will be facing the winner of the upcoming title fight between Alexander Gustafsson and champion, Jon Jones.
While Glover admitted some dissatisfaction with his performance, namely about the overconfidence that got him in trouble early on against Bader, he is still confident in his skills and power coming into a title shot. Confident enough that he doesn’t care who he fights; and so confident, in fact, that he is anticipating knocking out Jon Jones.
“I don’t have any preferences,” Teixeira said at the post-fight press conference. “My dream is to get the belt, but I believe Jon Jones will win. And I hope Jones wins because he has a bigger name and he’s the champion for a long time. I have to come here prepared to beat him. I have the knockout power to do it. If my hand lands, he will go down.”
While the details for Glover’s title shot depend on the outcome of UFC 165: Jones vs. Gustafsson on September 21, one thing is certain: Teixeira will be facing the winner with a lot of momentum. He has won his last 20 fights, the last 5 of which have been in the UFC. Of those last five UFC fights, only one has gone to a decision.Tags: Alexander Gustafsson, Glover Teixeira, jon jones, jones gustafsson, mma, MMA NEWS, ufc, UFC 165, UFC Fight Night 28, ufc news
