Gina Carano’s Strikeforce contract expires in June, UFC still interested

By Chris Taylor - April 17, 2014

UFC President Dana White met with former Strikeforce title challenger Gina Carano last week to discuss her potential return to mixed martial arts.

The meeting did not produce a future bout or a new contract, but the Zuffa fight boss told reporters at the ‘TUF Nations Finale’ that “Conviction” could still be octagon bound:

“She wants to fight,” he said. “Let’s see if we come to deal or not and then we’ll talk about Gina. She’s under contract but that doesn’t mean anything. Her contract with Strikeforce actually expires in June.”

Gina Carano (7-1 MMA) hasn’t fought since suffering the first loss of her career to Cristiane “Cyborg” Santos in August of 2009.

Carano is widely considered to be the first face of women’s mixed martial arts.

After stepping away from the sport of MMA, Carano has since found success in Hollywood, starring in movies such as Haywire, Fast and Furious 6 and In The Blood.
