The possible signing of Gina Carano has generated a lot of news recently. The excitement of having the pioneer of women’s MMA joining the UFC has definitely excited fans, and the rollercoaster ride of signing, not signing, and signing again has certain thrown fans for a loop. However, UFC President Dana White hinted last week that there would be significant news in regards Carano coming soon.
On Wednesday’s episode of UFC Tonight, Ariel Helwani mentioned that sources close to the deal are reporting that negotiations are “doing a lot better” and the deal is “getting close.”
If the deal goes through, we are expected to see Carano immediately go up against UFC Women’s bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey later this year. While the fight is an excellent match up and a terrific draw for women’s fight fans, Carano’s instant title shot has divided the MMA community because Carano would essentially be skipping all of the women currently ranked on the UFC roster, that have actively been fighting to earn a chance at the title. Carano hasn’t put on her gloves in five years, which also another point of concern.
When the deal is officially announced, more about Gina Carano’s game plan for a very active Ronda Rousey will be revealed, and will be able to put at least a few minds to rest.
