Gilbert Melendez: ‘I’ve trained with Ronda Rousey, and she feels like a dude, and that’s a compliment’

With personal insight into the skill set of UFC champion Ronda Rousey, UFC 188’s Gilbert “El Nino” Melendez talks about the sport’s biggest star while on the road handling his media obligations.

“I think Ronda has the potential to beat many athletes, many men athletes. Not just your normal men, but men who are successful in other sports. Now if it comes to heads up MMA, then it becomes a little different. But I see her being able to––if she can take Floyd (Mayweather) to the ground, if she can even body lock him, she has what it takes to pick someone up and throw someone. Throw them like they weigh nothing, she has the potential to do that. I’ve grappled with her and she feels like a dude, and I mean that in like a compliment.”

The Ronda debate will live on, and we likely won’t ever see Ronda face a man, but we now know that she “feels like a dude” on the mats, and that’s not a bad thing.
