October 17, 2015 9:59 pm by Evan Bell

Saturday night Gennady Golovkin became the unified middleweight champ as he put David Lemieux away in the 8th round.

While the fight was close to ending in the 5th when Golovkin landed a brutal liver shot, Lemieux was able to survive several more rounds before the referee had enough in the 8th and called the fight.

The win extended Golovkin’s professional record to 34-0 as he claimed the IBF middleweight title, while retaining the WBA, IBO, & interim WBC titles.
