Fight Night 36 Results: Souza Dominates Carmont en route to Decision Win

By bjpenndotcom - February 15, 2014

The ground game of Jacare Souza won him the decision victory.

Francis Carmont got taken down early on in the first round and it all looked to be going downhill for him from there. Souza transitioned right to back control and locked in a body triangle. Carmont defended the rear naked choke for nearly five full minutes and that surely took some energy out of him.

The second round was an improvement for Carmont solely because he was in no position to get submitted. Souza ducked under Carmont’s strikes and landed countershots of his own. Carmont went right back to almost being submitted in the third round as he fought off the rear naked choke, once again, for nearly five full minutes. At the end of the fight, Francis Carmont raised his hand to try and convince the judges of his victory, much to the chagrin of the crowd.

Depending on the performance of the main-eventers, it is possible Souza locked up the position of number one contender with this win.

Jacore Souza def. Francis Carmont by way of Unanimous Decision (29-28, 29-28, 30-27)
