According to multiple reports, “The Last Emperor”, Fedor Emelianenko has booked his next opponent in the form of one-time UFC title challenger, Jeff Monson.
Our sources have indicated that while not official, verbal agreements are in place and contracts are expected to be issued shortly.
It has been highly speculated that Emelianenko would reemerge on the Russian scene for his promotional home M-1 Global since being released by the ZUFFA brass from his Strikeforce contract after his third straight loss inside the Strikeforce cage.
The proposed date at the moment is set for November 12; however both date and venue are still not confirmed for the heavyweight superstar’s return, who will likely compete in Moscow, Russia.
Fedor was last seen in action in a losing effort to Dan Henderson this past July. It marked his third straight loss and the end of his American soil based career with Strikeforce. Prior to the Henderson defeat he was finished by both Antonio Silva and Fabricio Werdum under the promotion.
Jeff Monson is a former UFC heavyweight with a wealth of international experience and an A-grade grappling pedigree. He was last seen in a losing effort to rising star, Daniel Cormier under the Strikeforce banner this past June. The loss snapped an 8-fight win streak; however Monson has won 17 of his last 21 fights.
