Faber misjudged Mendes’ conditioning vs. McGregor

By BJPENN.COM News - August 31, 2015

“UFC 189” is arguably the grandest stage Chad Mendes has ever performed on. It was the featherweight’s third opportunity at gold, but a drastically short training camp cut into his performance in July against Conor McGregor. McGregor attacked the body early and often. While Mendes showed rays of brilliance throughout the fight with his takedowns, it was obvious he was fading fast.

Mendes fell victim to strikes in the second round and McGregor will go down in the record books as a champion. Fellow Team Alpha Male fighter Urijah Faber claimed that he and Mendes misjudged what kind of fight-shape Mendes could get in with only two week’s notice.

Mendes will get his shot at redemption, however, when he faced Frankie Edgar at the finale of the upcoming season of “The Ultimate Fighter”. The teams will be coached by Conor McGregor and Urijah Faber, though the two will NOT fight at the end of the season.
