With all of the talk about Strikeforce closing its doors circulating – there is a collective mixture of emotions. Guys like Luke Rockhold, Gilbert Melendez, Frank Shamrock, and Josh Thomson have helped build the organization, and they are now facing the first time they would step out of the organization in quite a while – and will most likely enter the Octagon next year.
Josh recalled how it all began for him in Strikeforce.
“I was there when we first started the company”, Josh said. “The other guys I met Cung Le, Frank Shamrock, Gilbert. We met with Coker when he was just in the works of talking about making Strikeforce an MMA company. He said hey I want to build this off of you guys”.
Thomson is a prominent American Kickboxing Academy standout. He represents the organization well and is a true ambassador of mixed martial arts. He was also one of Strikeoforce’s biggest public supporters and with those doors closing it looks like now he will return to where it all started for him – the UFC. Admittedly, it is something he has somewhat mentally prepared himself for.
“I have a plan in my mind, a focus in my mind that when I get there – hey – I need to explode on the scene”, Thomson said. “Whoever it is, I need to go out there and stamp my name on this guy”.
“Stylistically, I match up with every single guy they have in there”.
In this interview with Sean McClure, Josh Thomson talks about his, and other AKA members transitioning to the UFC, Strikeforce, women’s MMA in the UFC, Dana White, and more.
