Meghan Wonder is a female jiu-jitsu practitioner, MMA photographer, and a huge fan of MMA and WMMA as a whole. She was kind enough to call in and visit with our boys over at BJPenn.com’s Fist-Ta-Cuff radio show last night and chimed in on a few different topics that were thrown around. Here are some of the highlights from the interview:
Meghan gave her opinion and thoughts on the upcoming bout between Phil Davis vs. Vinny Magalhaes:
“They’re both really good on the ground in different ways. Phil’s wrestling is just amazing but Vinny’s jiu-jitsu is amazing too. So the question that always gets answered differently in every fight is what happens when you put a wrestler against a jiu-jitsu guy, what happens? Phil, he’s added jiu-jitsu into his game since he’s come into MMA, he’s got the weapon “Philmora”, so he’s able to incorporate the jiu-jitsu submissions into his wrestling. So I think a ground fight could be very interesting.
“You know when you throw jiu-jitsu in I’m like, ‘well if they do this you can do that,’ (laughs). Um, I have to go with Phil. I think Phil wins this.”
Meghan then gave her opinion on whether Phil should try to keep the fight standing or should he take it to the ground?
“Well, I think they’re both decent strikers too. Phil has his elbows and Vinny has some power behind him. So I kind of see this one as being even all the way around. I think if they stand and bang it’ll be pretty even and if they go to the ground it’ll be pretty even…not in the same areas, technically, but, yeah.”
Meghan also gave her thoughts on the next season of TUF, which will be playing host to women fighters and women coaches for the first time:
“I think it’s awesome that women have made it into the UFC after so many statements of women are never going to be allowed, women can’t fight, women cant this, women can’t that. To see the progress in the sport over the last year or two and just kinda see it skyrocket is awesome.”
“I’m not sure I want to see Ronda and Miesha fight again but those two are made for the show. They are made to create that drama that is going to make the show interesting.”
