Ex-XFC Champ Nick Newell Signs with World Series of Fighting

By bjpenndotcom - May 28, 2013

Former XFC lightweight champion Nick Newell (9-0) has announced a deal with the World Series of Fighting. Newell is undefeated with 8 of his 9 wins coming by finish. Now, Newell has a chance to fight against upper-echelon level talent in a new organization that touts several big-name stars.

Here, Newell announces his new home via his Twitter account, earlier today:

Newell won his XFC lightweight belt in his last fight with the promotion, but conflict with the XFC president, (who stated that Newell couldn’t defend himself against fighter who stood as his first title defense), led to Newell being stripped of his title and him leaving the promotion.

As for the XFC presidents statement, the entire interview, including the president showing a form of unwarranted bias in picking a winner in the upcoming title fight between Newell and Scott Holtzman. The article apparently expresses Newell’s ‘unwillingness’ to defend his title.

Now, with Newell in a promotion who has a TV deal with NBC Sports, perhaps he can receive a proper platform for a career that seems to be brimming with potential.
