The UFC will make its return to London on March 8 with the Fight Night 37 fight card, headlined by Alexander Gustafsson and Jimi Manuwa. Recently added to the card was a light heavyweight showdown between UFC and Pride veteran Cyrille “The Snake” Diabate and Ilir “The Sledgehammer” Latifi, training partner of Alexander Gustafsson.
Sporting a 4-3 UFC record, Diabate will attempt to rebound from a loss to Jimi Manuwa at UFC on Fuel TV 7. Latifi will be making only his second appearance inside the octagon, and although ‘The Sledgehammer’ is coming off of a loss, he certainly gained some stock in the process. In an almost ‘Rocky Balboa’ fashion, Latifi stepped up to face off against Gegard Mousasi on short notice in the UFC on Fuel TV 9 main event for his UFC debut, replacing injured teammate Alexander Gustafsson, who was sidelined by a deep cut sustained during preparation for the fight. The Swede did not emerge victorious over Mousasi, but he certainly gained the respect of many by taking the former Strikeforce and Dream champion to a decision. Such grit and tenacity was more than enough to earn him another shot inside the octagon.
