Daniel Cormier’s run in the UFC has been extended, as reports from UFC Tonight indicate that the heavyweight fighter has signed a new eight-fight contract.

This comes on the heels of his second consecutive win inside the UFC Octagon; the two wins improving his undefeated professional record to 13-0.  Cormier defeated both opponents, Frank Mir at UFC on FOX 7 and Roy Nelson at UFC 166, by way of unanimous decision.  But Cormier’s success at heavyweight has been shrouded by fans’ desire to see him compete at the light heavyweight division limit of 205 lbs.

And that just may happen.  According to Wednesday’s episode of UFC Tonight, Cormier is having talks for his next fight some time in March, and former UFC light heavyweight champion Rashad Evans has been listed as a potential opponent.

Cormier commented to the FOX Sports 1 program that nothing is official, but he confirmed that Evans had been brought up as a potential opponent.

This drop in weight classes comes after Cormier and current UFC light heavyweight champion Jon Jones have joked back and forth regarding a potential fight.  When Cormier began discussing a drop to light heavyweight, Jones was the first name he called out.  As it stands, Jon Jones is set to face Glover Teixeira at UFC 171 in March.
