Andrei Arlovski UFC 187

Hours before his fight of the year candidate with Travis Browne, Andrei Arlovski was in risk of being pulled from UFC 187. Arlovski injured his calf the night of the weigh ins and Dana White told the Fox Sports 1 crew during the post fight show that the bout was almost canceled.

“Two hours before he came out, we didn’t think he was going to fight,” White said. “He popped something in his calf the night before— could barely walk, was limping. The doctors checked him out and I guarantee you, he gritted it out to show the doctors that he could fight. So the doctors said ‘It’s up to you, do you want to fight?’ He said ‘Yes’.”

After Arlovski told the doctors he was ready to participate in his bout with Browne, White had people get Arlovski to make sure he was prepared and feeling well enough to fight. “Then I had people go get him and bring him to my dressing room and said, ‘Do you want to fight? Are you sure you want to take this fight? You don’t have to take this fight.’ He looked at me and said, ‘Is this seriously why you just called me back here?’ I said yeah. He said, ‘I’m fighting,’ and he left my dressing room.”

Andrei Arlovski and Travis Browne had the most intense fight of the night as both heavyweights landed devastating shots that would knock any normal man out. The fight earned them an extra $50,000 and could potentially win fight of the year honors.
