“Anderson [Silva] absolutely thinks Vitor [Belfort] deserves another shot,” UFC President Dana White said in anticipation of UFC 168’s main event fight between Anderson Silva and middleweight champion Chris Weidman.  “The next move for [the winner] will be Vitor Belfort.”

Vitor Belfort will finally get another shot at the UFC middleweight championship belt.  According to UFC President Dana White, Belfort will face the winner of the upcoming championship fight between Chris Weidman and Anderson Silva later this month at UFC 168.

Weidman defeated Silva in their first match at UFC 162 to earn himself the UFC middleweight title.  But with Belfort decidedly the next opponent for the winner of this rematch, even if Anderson Silva avenges his loss, the Weidman-Silva rivalry will not see an immediate third bout, says Dana White.

[Silva’s manager, Ed] Soares was telling me that Anderson absolutely thinks Vitor deserves another shot,” White told FOX Sports.  “The next move for him [if he wins] will be Vitor Belfort.

If Anderson Silva doesn’t win this fight, Chris Weidman and Vitor,” White concluded.

Indeed, Vitor Belfort has done everything to warrant this immediate shot at the title.  Since he last fought Anderson Silva for the belt in 2011, Belfort has gone 5-1, losing only to Jon Jones in a fight for Jones’ light heavyweight championship.  Of his 5 wins, he has earned three first-round KO’s, a first-round submission and a second-round TKO.  His three most recent wins have come by way of highlight-reel head kicks against Michael Bisping, Luke Rockhold and Dan Henderson.
