UFC middleweight fighter Tim Kennedy has earned himself a fight against a ‘big name’ opponent, according to UFC President Dana White, after Kennedy scored a first-round knockout over Rafael ‘Sapo’ Natal Wednesday night.

In front of thousands of United States Army troops at Fort Campbell, Kentucky, Kennedy fought Natal in the main event of the UFC’s third Fight for the Troops event.  Much to the pleasure of the crowd in attendance, Kennedy – an active member of the United States Army – rocked Natal with a punch near the end of the first round, following him to the ground to secure his TKO victory.

It was a big win for Kennedy, who advances his MMA record to 17-4 with an unblemished UFC run of 2-0 since joining the promotion in July.  The momentum has earned him, according to Dana White, an important fight in his next opponent.

Yeah, he will,” White said at the post-fight press conference when asked if Kennedy will get a big-name opponent.  “Tonight was a big win; either one of these guys who would have won tonight, it was a big win for them.  So, yeah, his next fight will be a very important one.

White didn’t throw out a name of a possible opponent.  With much of the middleweight division’s top talent already locked into upcoming fights, Kennedy may have to wait a couple of months before he has an opponent.  As for who he wants to fight, Kennedy deferred answering at the press conference, hinting that he may go on another Twitter-spree reminiscent of his calling out the entire middleweight division to find a replacement for his original opponent for last night’s fight, Lyoto Machida.

I’m not going to call anybody out right now,” Kennedy said.  “I’m going to wait until I get back to Twitter and Facebook.  Then I’m going to fire relentlessly.”

After the knockout power he displayed Wednesday night, Kennedy can fire away with confidence.
