Dana White Says Ben Askren Deal Won’t Be Easy, Calls Bjorn Rebney A ‘Scumbag’

There’s been no love loss between the presidents of two of MMA’s largest organizations, as UFC President Dana White spoke about his organization’s possibility of picking up Bellator welterweight champion, Ben Askren.

While the UFC and its president Dana White have changed their stance toward Ben Askren- that is, they now want the undefeated welterweight champion whose contract with Bellator ended earlier this month- White admitted that acquire the fighter may prove to be difficult.

Askren (12-0) is a former Olympic wrestler who won the Bellator belt back in 2010.  Since then, he’s successfully defended the belt four times.  While Dana White is guilty of calling Askren one of the most boring fighters in the sport for his tendency to out-wrestle his opponents, the UFC President did say that he was interested in getting him to the UFC.

Of course, given Bellator’s history with letting its fighters go (see Eddie Alvarez), Dana White is not expecting an easy time.

Bjorn Rebney’s a scumbag,” White told press about Bellator’s CEO.  “The guy says, ‘Yeah, we’re going to let him go.  Let’s just part ways.’  You ain’t f—ing parting ways with him.  He’s got a matching right and all that bulls—.  This guy is a f—ing typical boxing piece of s—.  Everybody knows the guy is a scumbag.

We’ll see what happens with Ben.  First they say they’re going to let him go.  They’re not going to let him go.  They’ll probably end up suing him too and make him sit out and lose a bunch of money and f— him in a deal.  Bad guys.  They’re bad guys.

White says the whole situation looks reminiscent of Eddie Alvarez’s case several years ago.

He’s f—ing him.  He’s doing the same thing he did to Eddie.  He’s not letting him really go out and get a fair- do you really think honestly, everyone here, do you think that if Eddie Alvarez did a deal with us, that Eddie Alvarez wouldn’t have made a lot of money?  Hector Lombard did.  Hector Lombard got paid.

For Askren’s part, he wants to test himself against the best at 170 lbs, and the UFC’s stacked welterweight division will certainly provide a long roster of challenges for him.  When he spoke to MMAjunkie.com a while back, Askren commented that Rebney would be “doing me a favor” by letting him sign with the UFC.
