Dana White reveals highest amount paid to one UFC fighter

By Chris Taylor - September 13, 2013

Yesterday, during his public “Google + Hangout” Chat, UFC President Dana White was asked what was the most any UFC athlete had ever made for a single bout.

Mr. White didn’t shy away from the question, calling upon nearby Lorenzo Fertita to help him give an accurate answer.

Here is what they came up with:

“We paid a guy $5 million for a fight before, [but] we didn’t start making money until 2007. That was six years ago. So boxing’s been around for a 100 years, they’ve been doing big events since way back when. Pretty amazing what we have done in short amount of time. I don’t think a lot of people look at that way and break it down for what it really is.”

The UFC bosses would not reveal to whom the $5 Million was paid, but Georges St. Pierre, Anderson Silva or Brock Lesnar would be the likely candidates.

What most likely spawned the question, was the recent news that Floyd Mayweather Jr. is set to make a guaranteed $41.5 million for this Saturday’s bout opposite Canelo Alvarez.
