After UFC 167’s controversial title match between Georges St. Pierre and Johny Hendricks, there were many media members and fans believing that it was quite similar to a recent title match, that of Jon Jones vs Alexander Gustafsson. In that fight, many thought Gustafsson won, and deserved an immediate title shot, and many believe Hendricks warranted a rematch with his performance as well.
UFC President Dana White, on the other hand, believes that the aftermath of these fights are not as similar as some people may think.
“The situation was different with that one because Jon said, ‘I already beat him. Now I want to fight Glover Teixeira.’ He goes, ‘I’ll give him the rematch after.’ Jon had this plan where he wanted to beat another contender and then he’d do the rematch,” White told MMAFIGHTING.com, “I respected that. Who’s Georges going to fight?”
“Who would be next? He already fought Condit. Johny deserves this rematch,” White said. “Every fight is different. You can’t look at other situations and go, ‘but in this fight…’ Every fight is different. Johny Hendricks deserves this rematch.”Tags: Alexander Gustafsson, Anderson Silva, Dana White, georges st. pierre, gsp, johny hendricks, jon jones, mma, MMA NEWS, ufc, ufc news
