Dana White Not Concerned About Nate Diaz Reunion Tweet

Earlier this week UFC lightweight fighter, Nate Diaz, stated via Twitter that he won’t be attending his upcoming bout.  “Cant make it november [sic] 30th.  ive  gotta high school reunion i have to tend too…” the statement read.  When asked about the unusual announcement from the fighter, UFC President Dana White seemed unconcerned, if not a little annoyed.

Nate Diaz’ Twitter account has attracted a lot of attention in recent months.  Back in May, Diaz received a hefty fine and suspension from the UFC for insensitive statements he made toward another fighter; and it seems the lightweight fighter found another way to make some noise with his Twitter account.
Earlier in the week, he posted that he wouldn’t be making his upcoming bout with Gray Maynard at The Ultimate Fighter 18 Finale on November 30th because he’s “gotta high school reunion i have to tend too [sic].”

When asked about this recent announcement, UFC President Dana White seemed relatively un-worried about the younger Diaz brother’s antics.

I’m shocked,” White said in jest.  “The Diaz brothers are doing something crazy?  I’m shocked.  I heard about it yesterday.  Somebody told me about it.  But I haven’t talked to Joe or Nate or anybody.  I don’t even know if it’s true.

I didn’t even know Nate did this, that he tweeted it.  Did he talk to Joe Silva?  If he really tweeted that he’s going to his high school reunion and didn’t call Joe and those guys and [explain]…  I don’t take Twitter for news, you know what I mean?  It’s not an official statement.

Of course, it is difficult to believe that Diaz’s post, which has since been removed, was said as anything but a joke.  It is ironic, however, that White disregards Twitter as something to be taken lightly and with a grain of salt given the UFC’s swift punishment toward Diaz’ earlier Twitter transgression.

It should be noted for sake of completeness that the fight card appears to be continuing as planned, as neither Nate Diaz nor the UFC have made an official announcement saying otherwise.
