Dana White: Jon Jones Doesn’t Want to Fight Gustafsson, Wants DC

By BJPENN.COM News - June 3, 2014

It’s no secret by now that Jon Jones has yet to sign the bout agreement to fight Alexander Gustafsson, however nobody is quite sure why Bones refuses to sign the contract. Dana White spoke to UFC.com today and said Jones doesn’t want to fight Gustafsson, but instead wants to fight Daniel Cormier.

“Just to clear up a couple things, people think we’re in contract negotiations with Jon Jones – we’re not,” he said. “Jon Jones still has five fights left on his contract. So what we’re doing right now is trying to get him to sign the bout agreement for Gustafsson. He doesn’t want to fight Gustafsson. … Lorenzo and I have a meeting with Jones on Thursday to get him to sign the bout agreement, and he’s asking to fight Cormier instead.”

After a very controversial decision at UFC 165 that saw Jones retain the title, Dana White said Gustafsson would fight Jones for a rematch, pending he win a bout to get back to title contention. Gustafsson delivered in March, defeating Jimi Manuwa. Jones then defeated Glover Teixeira at UFC 172. It appeared a rematch between the two was on the horizon, however for now, that rematch is on hold until Dana White and the Fertitta’s can convince him otherwise.
