Dana White Is Not Guaranteeing GSP An Immediate Title Shot With Loss To Hendricks

Georges “Rush” St. Pierre, UFC welterweight champion, may not receive an immediate title shot rematch if he loses against hard-hitting southpaw Johny “Bigg Rigg” Hendricks.

St. Pierre, The heavy favorite coming into Saturday’s main event, has all but cleaned out the welterweight division before standouts Hendricks and Rory “Ares” MacDonald rose up the ranks.

In his storied career, St. Pierre has claimed the not-so-arguable title of greatest welterweight in mixed martial arts history.

Now, UFC President Dana White is saying that if St. Pierre loses on Saturday night at UFC 167, he will not guarantee an immediate title rematch.

“We’ll see what happens. Obviously, Georges St. Pierre has had the belt since 2007,” White said. “Before that, he had had the belt before that, he lost the belt to Matt Serra.”

“All fights are different. We’ll see what happens. We’ll see how the thing plays out.” He said. “It would be kind of a weird thing for Georges St. Pierre to not get another shot at the title. It would be hard to say that he’s not still probably the number one contender if he loses the belt on Saturday.”

Although there is no guarantee that St. Pierre will get an immediate title shot if he in fact loses the title to Hendricks, it would be hard to argue that he would deserve it. St. Pierre has a UFC record of 18-2, and has racked up 8 consecutive title defenses.
