Dana White: Georges St. Pierre Has The Bank Account To Retire Comfortably

Georges “Rush” St. Pierre, the long-standing welterweight champion of the UFC, has undoubtedly earned a sizable fortune throughout his mixed martial arts career. Sizable enough, it seems, that Dana White believes that St. Pierre has enough money to retire after his fight against Johny “Bigg Rigg” Hendricks and live comfortably.

Rumors have been circulating throughout the MMA community that if St. Pierre successfully defends his welterweight title this Saturday, he may end up retiring. Firas Zahabi, head trainer of St. Pierre’s camp Tristar Gym, has recently stated that “If [St. Pierre] still has the motivation for another training camp, it will continue. Otherwise, he will take his retirement.”

Dana White has similar sentiments on St. Pierre’s retirement, but maintains that money is the true factor involved in the situation.

“Georges St. Pierre has plans,” White said. “I’m sure his guys have ideas and plans for him.”

“When I talk about Georges St. Pierre’s bank account, Georges St. Pierre without a doubt has the bank account to retire,” White said. “Unless he’s out there blowing all of his money that I’m not aware of.”

White continued and said, “He’s not that type of guy as far as I know. He could retire Saturday and do very well.”

St. Pierre, though, has different ideas. As he said to mmafighting.com, “Listen, I’ve been asked the same question [the] last three fights. I love my job, I said this the last three fights and I will say the same thing, I don’t know when I’m going to retire.”

He went on to say, “It could be in one week, it could be five years or 10 years. Right now, I’m really happy with what I do. I feel very happy, very motivated and I’m planning my next fight, not my retirement.”

“People who love me, they want me to retire on top. It’s normal. Every time I step inside the Octagon, it’s a big risk and of course they want me to retire on top. But, the truth is, I’m the one who will decide about that,” he said. “It’s up to me to make that decision. And whatever my decision is, these people that I love and really care about me, they will be with me no matter what”

It is unknown if St. Pierre will retire after this Saturday’s UFC 167 event, but things may become clear after the fight.
