After Derek Brunson and Yoel Romero’s epic back and forth battle Romero gained the upper hand and was able to secure a TKO victory at UFC Fight Night 35 on Wednesday night in Duluth, Ga..
At first it seemed that Derek had it in the bag, however Romero was able to land a few hard strikes to the jaw of Brunson during the last round of the fight that tipped the scales in Romero’s favor and secured the TKO stoppage. One of the heavy hands that Romero threw (I’m imaging that nasty overhand left) broke Brunson’s jaw.
It was not clear immediately that Brunson’s jaw was in such bad shape. Most were worried about his ribs that took the final beating before the referee stopped the bout. UFC President Dana White was even a bit in the dark on Brunson’s condition going into the press conference.
However, before Dana caught his plane home to Vegas he took to twitter to inform everyone of Brunson’s situation.
When asked about Brunson’s ribs Dana responded by saying, “@DerekBrunsonMMA I was worried about his ribs too but they are ok. Tough dude”
Brunson himself even got a tweet into before the night was over apologizing to his fans but giving credit to his opponent, “This lost hurts so bad right now . I just couldn’t finish . Hats off to @YoelRomeroMMA #UFC”Tags: Dana White, derek brunson, UFC Fight Night 35, Yoel Romero
