Dana White: Chael Sonnen vs. Phil Davis ‘could happen’ at UFC 167

By Chris Taylor - August 29, 2013

MMA fans who were hoping to see Chael Sonnen (29-13-1 MMA, 7-6 UFC) and Wanderlei Silva (35-12-1 MMA, 5-7 UFC) settle their beef at UFC 167 in November are likely to be disappointed, as UFC president Dana White has indicated that “The Axe Murderer” is still recovering from a serious injury and won’t be ready until next year.

With that said, White is now considering pitting “The American Gangster” against Phil “Mr.Wonderful” Davis (12-1 MMA, 8-1 UFC) at November’s UFC 167 event in Las Vegas.

Sonnen scored a huge submission victory over former UFC light heavyweight champion Mauricio “Shogun” Rua at the UFC Fight Night 26 event in Boston, just 12 days ago.

Meanwhile, Phil Davis’ most recent effort saw him earn a controversial split-decision win over former UFC light heavyweight champion Lyoto Machida at UFC 163 in Brazil.

No bout agreement between Sonnen and Davis has been signed at this time. Is this a fight you would like to see put together by UFC officials? Let’s hear it Penn Nation!
