It could have been Cat Zingano stepping into the cage this Saturday against UFC women’s bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey at the biggest card of the year, UFC 168. Unfortunately for her, after her TKO victory over Miesha Tate at the Ultimate Fighter Season 17 Finale early this year, she injured her knee. Due to this, the UFC decided to give Tate the TUF coaching spot, and gave her the title shot as well.

Luckily for Zingano, Dana White made it clear that she is still the number one contender for the title, and whenever she becomes healthy again, she will get her crack at the winner of this weekend’s rematch between Tate and Rousey.

“Oh she’s the number one. She’s numero uno, when she’s healthy she’ll be ready to go,” White said.

Zingano underwent Platelet Rich Plasma and stemcell therapy to heal her knee, and her recovery seems to have gone well.

“She’s doing good,” White said. “Hopefully she stays healthy and we can get her back by summer.”
