Recently, the UFC announced their exciting new digital network UFC Fight Pass. The package is expected to be what every fight fan dreams of with loads of exclusive content such as a huge library of fights. They have also had their first online only event with UFC Fight Night 34 that aired January 4. The event was located in Singapore. Also, UFC Fight Pass aired the preliminary bouts for Wednesday’s UFC Fight Night 35.
One of the most exciting aspects of the new UFC Fight Pass is the extended access that fight fans will have on fight films including fights from the “Dark Ages” of MMA from former organizations such as Pride, WEC, Strikeforce, and Affliction just to name the bigger ones. However, the library right now isn’t nearly living up to its potential only airing fights that have happened recently.
At the post fight presser after UFC Fight Night 35, UFC president Dana White stated that they have plans to have a much larger library up and ready by March 1st, just around the time that the free trials end.
“Everything will be on there, and what we’re going to do is, even though there’s issues … we’re still going to put it up,” White told MMAJunkie.com.
This is something that has been in the works for sometime and something that Dana is extremely excited about.
“Thirteen years ago, when we bought this company, this is what we’ve been waiting for,” he said. “We’ve been waiting for this for 13 years. I was saying in old interviews that this thing works all over the world. We’re going to bring it to all these different places, and what do you think is going to happen when everything goes online? Millions of people from around the world can watch at the same time.”
And though this all seems great there are some technical issues that the UFC needs to work out in order to keep the attention of its very demanding public. Things have been said regarding Fight Pass’s less-than-adiquit search function, user interface, and (probably most importantly) the security issues and concerns. Yes, having every fight throughout the history of MMA at your fingertips is awesome, but if the UFC doesn’t correct these concerns in a timely manner they may face the consequence of losing some customers.Tags: Dana White, UFC Fight Pass
