You may remember when Australian Mixed Martial Artist Bec Hyatt revealed shocking events, describing accounts of domestic violence and mental torment, brought on by her very own husband, Dan ‘The Riot’ Hyatt, back in August 2013. We haven’t heard much about it since then, but apparently the same can’t be said for Dan and several of his friends! The Welterweight released a lengthy feature on Facebook, just three days ago, stating, “..many loyal friends [have] been subject to numerous death threats, abusive messages and cowardly acts since its initial release.”, referring to his wife’s statements. Dan continued, saying:
“I too was a victim of domestic violence during my relationship with [Bec]… I was slapped, punched, kicked, kneed, spat on, mentally tormented and abused and even baited into attempting suicide more times than I care to remember.”
‘The Riot’ went on to express, in detail, things that his wife would say to him, such as, “why don’t you just kill yourself already”, and, “you deserved the beatings your father gave you”. He recounted how she would encourage their son to join in and call his father a “piece of shit”, “daddy dickhead“, and “dumb dog”.
They say there are two sides to every story and with 16,800 homicides and $2.2 million in (medically treated) injuries due to intimate partner violence, annually, domestic violence is a serious subject and should be treated as such. If you or anyone you know is a victim of domestic violence, call the National Domestic Violence Hotline at 1−800−799−7233 or TTY 1−800−787−3224.
So what do you think, Penn fans?
